Preparing for the Cross—Part Four: Dream Your Future

Every day holds a new vision of what could be for you. Try not to limit God by thinking in specifics. Think about general things that you want to express in your life: great relationships, powerful and supportive friends, lots of money in the bank, a safe home, and an amazing job that you want to work at every day.

If you have been following my story on Facebook, you might know that I was watching television two nights ago when, with no provocation, an amazing wind with the sound of a freight train, lifted the roof of my carport and storage shed right off and cut my electricity at the same time. As you can imagine, I was frightened to the core, as was my mother who was sitting on the adjacent couch.

As I waited in the candlelit living room for Nashville Electric to show up, I thought of all the things that could have happened as a result of this accident. My car went unscathed—not one scratch, though it was directly under the carport. No planks from the roof went through the windows of my house, especially the one where I was sitting right in front of. Very few things were broken, because the wind came under the roof and lifted it straight off. Many angels must have been around me and around my house.

I have been spending the last two days getting estimates and going through Insurance legalities to see what the universe is ready to reward me with. I decided to not look at this experience as a bad thing. I ended up getting a new roof out of it. I get my carport rebuilt and my storage area renewed. Good things can come from bad situations. And angels can protect you even in the midst of the storm. Believe for your best.

Every year I make a vision board of what I want my life to look like, who I want to touch, and where I would like to travel. You can look up the words “Vision Board” in my index of Blog Titles to discover how to make one. I have been adding new things to it as I feel my life is transforming into a vast, undiscovered world. The rest of this trip to my future will fill in the blanks for itself as I follow my heart and the leading of God.

Your board should expound upon each area of your life with simple, yet bold, thoughts and pictures about Finding Authentic You. Can you accept that the best you can be is ready for you right now? You must believe for that to happen.

Let my blog and its titles be like a spiritual lottery. Every day or anytime you feel like you need a spiritual boost, I want you to either open the website to a random page and read that section, knowing it pertains to you. Or I want you to look through the alphabetized list of titles and see if something pops out at you to read. If that happens, know that what you read will be what you are led to hear in that moment to grow either spiritually, mentally, of physically stronger.

Have fun. Know that I see you completely growing in peace and fully authentic already! Always know, as well, you can contact me on this blog, and I’m ready to pray for you specifically or we can schedule an appointment either personally or with Skype. Help and love and creative visualization are only a step away at all times.

Is Life a Curse or a Grand Adventure?

A new matchmaking website had made its way to my email inbox. It told me that it was a new way that Match.com was using to connect people. So, bated, I began the test of questions. “What do you like more, cats or dogs? What are you more likely to vote for, a policy or a person? Watch, Football or Sunday movies? Vacation to ski or the beach?”

Then, the test showed a picture of a little boy looking over a high wall. The question was: what do you see?

I was multiple choice of four answers: (a) adventure, (b) something scary, (c) wide-open space, or (d) a little cat that needs to be rescued?

Of course, if I were to parse out each of these answers, I probably would get the exact person I was looking for with just this one question, especially if he were to elaborate. My personal answer was © wide-open space, unlimited resource for the future.

But the real question in this blog is: Where does anyone’s mind get the ability to think wide open space as opposed to scary or frightening? This life’s perspective is the difference between seeing your life as a curse or an adventure.

Even if what I saw over the wall was something that made my heart sink, such as mass devastation, I would still see it as a chance to make a difference in the world. “Look, I have discovered some world out there that needs our help. Let’s go save it! I want to make a difference.”

If what I saw was an army of men waiting to shoot me down, I would simply slip down the wall and retreat.

In other words, personally, I am the type of individual who waits until I see what is in front of me before I react. This is the difference between anticipating disaster and seeing your life as a curse behind every corner. This is the difference between fear and loneliness and giving the universe the opportunity to provide change and resources to make a considerable difference in your world every day.

Changing Your Mantel of Expectation About Life

If we recognize that we are not here on this earth to always be taking from life or each other, rather that our life’s journey includes, first, to be a resource for the earth’s good, then we lose the mantel of expectation that all things should be about personal gain and providing comfort to our own souls. Living in the now is about seeing life for exactly what it is. Life can be a storm. It can be a sunny day. It can be a snowy blizzard. Life can engulf you in a tsunami. All things are possible in a world that is filled with metaphoric and physical climate change and wind shifts.

Readying our souls and minds for the worst isn’t a bad thing. Respecting life’s course by knowing that each relationship has an end, either by a person dying or by you leaving or dying is just a mere given. This doesn’t created pessimism as much as it creates a sense of wanting to live in the present more fully.

When I consider the ephemeral state of life, I want to capture each moment and live it absolutely with abandon. I don’t want to waste time in the past or with petty, intricate nonsense. I don’t care about what you’ve said about me in the past. In fact, if you’re reading this, and you think I may never forgive you for something you did or said to me, you are absolutely wrong.

I may not want to have you as my best friend again because of trust issues and proper boundaries, but I don’t make a habit of holding negativity in my body or mind. It’s a waste of energy and a drain sucker to my body and soul.

Finding adventure instead of finding a curse to life is letting go of the negativity in your life and taking hold of the best parts of your life with both hands. Stretch out your strength in front of you like your laying out a road map. Work on extrapolating and finding the paths to the joys, the most trusted friends and family, and your strongest work attributes. Focus on finding the roads to the best in you. Let go of the people who have done you wrong and erase those roadways in your mind. Release the things that no longer serve you. Forget your failures, your roadblocks. They have taught you well. Cut the ties completely—now and get on the expressway to a new paradigm where unlimited good is your compass.

I have literally gone into my phone and email list and deleted people whom I don’t want to call or contact. I have a habit of thinking of someone who has hurt me in the past and try to reconcile, when it isn’t my duty or purpose to do so. The old neuro-pathways in my brain don’t want to let go of old relationships, because they are mapped out in my hippocampus as abandonment.

But when I look at my life with truth, I see that some people leaving my life is the best gift they could have given. Gone is where they should be and where I should leave them. So, I take away my opportunity to get in touch with them by using the DELETE BUTTON, because I know I may try at some point to recreate a sick pattern of detachment in my heart.

Ridding your life of negative choices helps to release the feeling of being cursed and creates a sense of open space for new and wonderful things to happen.

Remember we have Unlimited Source always wanting to fill our lives with wonder. But if our lives are filled already with negativity, there is no place to put this great adventure. So, find what no longer serves you and get rid of it today.

Make room for the great adventures that are in store for you and your loved ones now!

Does Creativity Wane as We Get Older?

At five years old I felt as if nothing could keep me from becoming the president of the United States. At six years old I wondered about creating the next best video game in the world. At seven I wondered if there were enough hours in a day to plan my destiny for my millionaire future. At fifty, sometimes I count the minutes until the work day ends and ponder on next week’s episode of “Revenge.”

Does our creative surge actually wane as we get older? Or do we lose our desire to dream because we have struggled for our divine destiny so long. Then as if in a boxing ring lying on our backs with the weight of the world pinning our shoulders to the mat, the ref that God gave us actually calls the fight?

I have a friend who got married soon after college and began having children. He ended up with three. This means that the moment he finished school, he had to start making enough money to provide for his wife and children. He never really had the time to dream, to create, to satisfy an urge to go above and beyond the normal expectancy and become “exactly” what he wanted. He simply slipped into the first and best possible job position he could find. From there, he has been chipping away at life ever since. His hopes have been invested primarily in his family and children, but not in his creativity or his career.

I sincerely believe that this can cause severe depression after a period of time. No family, no matter how wonderful they are, can take the place of a successful career and finding that passion inside of your self everyday to work and prosper from the heart center, where we’re meant to thrive with Spiritual passion.

So, if you’re thinking of having a family, I’d recommend finding your Self first and your passion, then moving to the next phase of your life. You will be duly rewarded in the process, if you do.

If you are already in a job that you dislike and have a family to feed, then the difficulty of finding your passion and your job will be much harder, but you should never settle until you find both. Keep looking. Don’t settle for less than you’re worth. Be a child with no boundaries again. Don’t quit your job to become a street singer and expect to pay your bills. That would be creating imbalance in your life. I’m not saying that. I’m saying that you should continue to dream big and search for what will satisfy you, even if it takes working two jobs to find the right one.

I heard a story about a seven-nine year old vocal coach who had many clients doing commercial work in Los Angeles. She went to her therapist and said, “I want to do make commercials like my clients, but I’m afraid I’m too old.”

Her therapist said that who she is as an older adult is special. Perhaps, she should look at trying for this new phase of her life as a hobby instead of something more taxing to her mind, like a new career. Long story short, this older gal has been making commercials ever since.

It’s never too late to recreate your life. It’s never too late to start dreaming again. Our minds haven’t stopped the ability to create. We have decided that dreaming is either a waste of time or that nothing really comes of dreams, because they have been dashed too many times. I don’t believe dreaming should stop until the dreams are fulfilled. Perhaps, I’m a perpetual optimist. But I want more out of life than status quo.

Your life isn’t over yet. Two years ago, I made a dream board of all the things I wanted to happen for my last book deal. I wanted to go on the Oprah and Ellen shows. I wanted to travel the world. I put a million dollar check in the middle of the board to represent ultimate gain for the book. I dreamed big!

Well, needless to say, not much of that happened. But my life isn’t over yet either. Who’s to say that all of those things still can’t happen? Maybe another book will take me there. Maybe another endeavor will make me riches. But if I give up dreaming, I lose the very spark that brings joy to my step and richness and texture to my everyday life.

Then comes depression and listlessness. Then comes getting up every morning a little heavier and a little less inspired. Soon life becomes a game of finding just enough joy to get by.

You have a choice… Dream big and continue dreaming until you die. Or stop the creative mind you have been given by God and discontinue the course of Spirit that presses you forward into every new dimension of life. You choose!
