The Life of an Angel

David and I saw an #angel today while standing on line at Trader Joe’s. As we reached the register, the cashier introduced herself. “How are you today. I’m Susan.” She then said, “Is this all together on one check?”

David and I laughed.  “I think he’s paying for all of it,” I said. “Isn’t he supposed to since we’re married?”

The cashier, a 50-60 year old petite woman, began telling us a story about how glad she was to be alive to see that two men could get married. She shared how her dear gay friend had passed, never getting to marry the man he loved for 40 years and had to live separately from to maintain their jobs in Washington D.C.

Susan shared that every since her friend’s death, she had been part of the battle to free gay men and women to marry in the U.S. Again, she congratulated us, as her eyes glistened. David and I left the store believing that we had just spoken with an angel.

A dear friend called me a few weeks back, sharing that she was compelled to go to Brazil to visit her aging mother. As the days approached her departure, my friend’s mother was hospitalized. This morning, soon after my dear friend arrival in Brazil, her mother passed. Of course, she and I believe that an angel had shared of the news of her mother’s impending transition and urged her to go to Brazil before she passed. (Rest in peace, my sweet friend!)

I have absolutely no problem believing that angels are all around us— above us, below us, before us, behind us, next to us, and using us as conduits for the messages of Spirit.

Anyone can be an angel should they decide to accept the fact that “there is only one Mind, One Love, One Power in the World, and you are connect divinely to that Power.” If you’re spiritually grown enough, you may even decide to knowingly act on behalf of that Mind, allowing yourself to be an angel here on earth.

We are told in the Christian Bible that the angels are our helpers. They watch us from heaven and marvel at us. They aid us when life is going awry and make sure that our path is clear to do what we came to the Earth to do.

35 But those who are considered worthy of taking part in the age to come and in the resurrection from the dead will neither marry nor be given in marriage,

36 and they can no longer die; for they are like the angels. They are God’s children, since they are children of the resurrection. (Luke 25: 35-36)

12 It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves but you, when they spoke of the things that have now been told you by those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven. Even angels long to look into these things. (1 Peter 1:12)

Spirit never dies. Even my dear friend’s mother hasn’t died. She has passed into another state of Mind and of body, into a heavenly place soon to ascend with the angels to a place of light and love. My friend knows this and is at peace… for many reasons.

Love is all around her in the form of friends, relatives, angelic power, and even her mother’s presence is still actively soothing her child from another dimension.

The life of an angel last as long as it needs to share the light and vision of God. Angel means messenger. We can all be angels of God. Perhaps, we are angels.

Angels Slumming It!

Isaac Newton said, “If I have seen further than others, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.” Could some of these giants or even you be angels dressed in human clothing? I often wonder.

After watching the movie Men in Black, my mind was set to caution as I looked at each individual in my life, for the next month, wondering if what I saw in the flesh was a mask or reality. Who knows, really?

Helen Keller said: “life is either an adventure or nothing at all.” She could say this with utmost authenticity, as her life was all about traveling in the dark, waiting for angels to lead her on her way to education and ultimately her speaker’s series, which inspired millions. I wonder how many angels are operating in my life or your life now, just to get us on our path and keep us there.

I’m a very tough human being with a strong push toward the future. But I can be easily manipulated by fear or abandonment. I know those are my buttons. So, I have to be sure that when I set out on a path that I look for times that these two triggers don’t cloud my vision. Often, though, angels help me when I get lost.

The idea of Angels walking among us on earth has been around since biblical times. In the Hebrew bible and in the Christian bible we see instances all through the scriptures where angels (the word angelos in the Greek means messengers) intervene and help humans along the path with divine messages and even miracles like parting a sea or changing a staff into a snake.

How often have you felt that some being from the ethers swept a car out of your way or kept you from tripping? I know almost every time I travel on the road in Florida, I feel as if ten angels must work very hard just to get me from point A to point B.

The title of this Discovery suggests that when Angels come to earth or when We come to earth that we are slumming it. The metaphor is to say that the earth is a place where angels either help or learn or do nothing, which is a total waste of God’s divine energy. When you open your heart to let spirit dwelling within you and heaven resides inside your heart, you become a conduit of God and God energy; albeit, a messenger. So, by definition, you, too, could be an angel here on earth.

I believe every moment of every day you have a choice of whether or not you want to be an angel or acquiesce to your Ego and simply live as a human slumming it, waiting for your next meal, your next pay check, and your next job. I don’t want to simply be human—ever. I want to know that I am a Spirit temporarily dwelling in a human body, doing Spiritual work on earth and dancing and enjoying all that this experience has to offer. All of this is God’s work. Whether it be to help one person or a large group or swim with the Dolphins, to think joyful and loving thoughts and do deeds that will contribute to changing the world’s behavior, let each of our days be filled with angelic reasoning.

Mary Ann Williamson says, “As we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.” As the kingdom is in each of us, we change the Whole Earth whenever we turn our thoughts to God!

Sewing on a New Button #endings #memorialday #divorce #death

Sewing on a New Button
#endings #memorialday #divorce #death

As I proceed to a new day, remembering the people who have passed, I still think of my friend, Michael’s, words: Endings comes in ways we can’t arrange.” Endings are like a button that falls off for no reason. One day, after the shirt hangs in your closet for a while, with no button, you decide to take it out, remembering how much you enjoyed wearing it. You choose to sew a new button on, so that you can wear it again. I believe that the memory of the past has to be like this metaphor. We have to be able to see the good in the past to fully be able to wear it proudly again. And the button you choose to sew on is likened to a new, positive outlook added to that memory.

I have a friend Linda who has been gone from my life for four years from very fatal colon cancer. I say have, because I don’t see her as gone from my life. I’ll explain later in this blog. She and I were connected at the hip for our entire friendship. She understood me like few people do. She was unlike anyone I knew. She was a lawyer, a very deductive and precise thinker. But, she had a spiritual outlook that often tipped me off of my stationary scales of ideas and beliefs. I like the quality in a friend who makes you reconsider what you believe daily, not in a contentious way, but a loving compassionate way.

I remember when she moved away to Colorado Springs, because she couldn’t overcome any sickness—at that time, she didn’t realize it was probably the beginning of the cancer. She called me one day completely excited. “I have the best idea,” she said. “There is a writer’s conference in Colorado Springs, a couple blocks from where I live. It is one of the best in the world. You could go to the conference with me, and we can have fun for a week!”

This was a great idea. I had been a fledgling writer, didn’t have 13 books published as I do now, and enjoyed going to writers’ conferences once or twice a year to boost my ego and meet agents and publishers. So, I went to the conference in the spring of 2000. At that conference, I was chosen to read a short story in a workshop that would be facilitated by the publisher that acquired my first two books. So, I know for certain that Linda’s life helped me in more ways than either of us knew, at that time. She did get to see the first book published, before she died. For that, I was very thankful to God.

I say that she is still a friend, because one evening after she passed into the ethers, she appeared to me as in a dream. She had bought me a small silver bell for Christmas one year. As we talked, she asked me to ring the silver bell whenever I wanted to talk with her. In that moment, I thought, I have no idea where I put that bell.

In fact, I hadn’t seen the bell since I moved into my new home two years prior to that. However, when I awoke the next morning, the bell was on my nightstand, as if it were there the entire time. I was astonished and, also, relieved that Linda would still be with me throughout my life and into eternity as an angel. I do believe in angels and spirits helping us and showing us truth from above and beyond.

I now believe that everyone I know who has gone on before me into the heavenly realm has the possibility of being an angel from the other side. For that, this Memorial Day becomes a time for me to rejoice in the spiritual realm for all those who have moved forward before me into their spiritual growth outside the human body. Now, they can be angels from the other side, knowing us in ways no other spirits could. For that, I give thanks on this Memorial Day.
