What’s Worse: Death or the Fear of Death? #facingdeath #Dallasmurders #psychology #spiritualadvice

I have challenged every significant fight concerning living in the past and facing the challenge of the future boldly. Ultimately, I believe that to face life head-on, you must first recognize that your life is ephemeral. Your physical body will eventually die. You don’t know when. You don’t know how. But there is no one who has conquered death. So, it would seem that facing this simple challenge would give you stamina to face anything on this earth if death is, indeed, the ultimate fear.

From the standpoint of those with a deadly disease or in palliative care, a dying person may tell me of the wonders of life lived with love. My father shared his disappointment of spending too much time wasted in fear or in unforgiveness. But the permeating reality from those who are dying is that a life worth living is not one that would include fear: fear of living, fear of reaching one’s goals, and definitely not fear of death itself.

Without getting into a religious diatribe about if there is life after death, you must recognize that any moment spent in anxiety and stress is a moment lost, especially for those who don’t believe in life after death. Positivity and love, peace and truth are what seem to enrich lives and produce productivity, prosperity and happiness.

I have wasted many days, months and years afraid of death, afraid of rejection, and ultimately afraid of facing pain. Worse still, this fear has kept me from sharing my gifts. I hide from the darkness only to discover that light wants to shine through me and guide me away from danger.

You cannot turn on the television, open up your web browser or walk outside without being hit with news of wars, destruction, and murders. It surrounds me even more today than anytime I can ever remember. Does it bother me? Does it flood my mind with fear that maybe I will be the next one and the end of an assault rifle? Yes, sometimes. But, mostly what happens in the face of death is a dose of harsh reality.

Life is for the living. If you waste the life you have on fears, not reaching your potential, walking in negativity instead of spreading positivity and love, then you have wasted the energy you have been put on this earth to share.

I will not let the Daily News tell me how to think. I will not let the presidential election overtake my life. I will not let terrorist get inside my mind and change my truth. Ultimately, my truth is what gets me through the day with a positive attitude. My truth—gathered from many days and nights of learning what is important in life—brings me joy, gives me the opportunity to spread love to those around me, and leads me to share light instead of darkness.

Fear of What… of God? #fear #spiritualtruth #divineprinciple #SOM #SpiritualLiving

When you consider fear from all sides, you realize that there is only one fear, the fear of God’s ultimate punishment, death. Of course, this is a presumption that death is, indeed, a punishment. Death may be, freedom from the bondage of our human bodies. No one really knows. But, what we do know is that most people truly fear death.

I am not a prejudiced guy. However, as a result of watching too many newscasts recently, I have it in my mind that I should be “watchful” around suspicious looking people, strange scenarios, and unattended packages. In the past month, I have become an Uber driver, more to experience new people and also to be led in a different way. Let’s say being an Uber driver is a spiritual experiment for me. On this particular day, I had a real Uber-epiphany.

I had to pick up a man from a private airport in Miramar, Florida. He was the only man standing in front of what looked like a vacant building. He appeared to be a typical foreigner, wearing a strange, black cap, and had a braided beard. He carried a single briefcase. And spoke with a curt, broken accent. He shared with me where we were going, which was a government building that, I know, is very well guarded from the public.

So, as I drove the 15 minutes from the airport to his destination, many probable possibilities went through my mind. What if I was an accessory to a bombing of this government building? What if the bomb went off in my car? What would happen if an angel interceded and spoke to me as one spoke to Mary before the birth of Jesus: “Quick,” the angel would say, “Jump out of the car! A bomb is about to go off!” How would I respond? Would I quickly escape the car and leave the man to explode in the car by himself.

What I realized in that moment that I was completely filled with irrational fear. I was not afraid of this man or anything he could do to me or the government building. My worst fear was of death or the pain of dying in an unexpected time.

When I looked at the situation, I asked myself an important question: “Am I ready to die? Would I be okay to leave the earth right now? Am I comfortable with how I have lived my life and whom I’m leaving behind? Have I done what I have come to earth to do, everyday?”

When I was able to answer all of the questions, the fear slipped away. I dropped the man off at his destination. And the Uber-Lesson was over!

How do we prepare for death?  Just behave in a manner that you believe is responsible, good and positive for yourself and towards others. This leads to calmness, happiness and an outlook that contributes to a calm and controlled mind at the time of death. Through this positive and compassionate outlook of life, you must always be aware of the impermanence of life and having a loving attitude towards all living things in this transient existence we will be free of fear in opposite to grasping selfishly to life due to not having experienced happiness in life. The Threat of Cancer #cancer #fataldiseases #lifeafterdeath

I never much feared death, even as a child. So, when I checked into the hospital for a colonoscopy, I was more intrigued by the results than scared. Death seems as if it would be more of a stepping-stone into a grand adventure and bliss, than mere morbidity. I’m not sure how or why I feel this way, but I have carried this feeling into my adulthood, for different reasons, though. Now, human life is just difficult in so many ways. Every step, every relationship, every work situation has the possibility or threat of going awry. When you experience too many bad times in life, you begin to feel that bad is the norm, and good is simply an anomaly.

I would never take my own life, but if I had gotten diagnosed with a fatal disease such as cancer, I wondered if I would treat it. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t have a death wish. Two days ago, I even went so far as to ask the colorectal surgeon not to tell my friend who accompanied me what my results were. I wanted the information all to myself, so I could chew on it and decide my own fate. Yes, looking back, it was a bit morbid, but, nonetheless, real and honest.

I don’t have too many friends or clients, for that matter, who haven’t, at least, thought about taking his/her life, once. Sometimes, the human existence is just too hurtful to fathom. You want out, and death would seem the easiest way. For me, though, the pain of death seems to scare me out of any delusion any time I’ve ever had ideations such as that.

And you say, “He’s a life coach. Even he has negative feelings!” Yes, of course, I do. What I learn most about being a life coach is that many of us feel exactly the same. However, what we do with our lives and our ideations is the difference between depression and health. If one has a proclivity toward depression, he or she should stay on an antidepressant to keep balance and stay away from the big highs and the way lows. Find a good psychiatrist and stick to your meds, especially, if you have a mental disorder. I stay on a low dosage of citalopram just to keep my serotonin levels normal, because I have the propensity to spiral low, especially during times of mucky, murky weather. Overcast days just take me to my lowest lows, sometimes.

So, my results were negative for colon cancer. Was I relieved? To be honest, yes. As a dear friend who felt as ambivalent about human life as I did once, told me, “You never know how precious life is until you get a death sentence. Then, you seem to savor every moment, even the bad ones.” Linda died of colon cancer about three years ago to the day. She had been one of my best friends for twenty years. I still grieve the loss.

Sometimes, I hear her voice calling to me from the ethers, “Come up higher, Bo! Come listen to the angels with me. It’s really amazing up here.” Then, she giggles like a little girl, as she always did, though she was in her late fifties. I wonder if her voice is merely my imagination, or if spirits really do exist outside of humanity. My extreme hope is that they do, because my entire life premise is based on that possibility.
