Dulling Your Sensitivity to the Very Thing We Must Recognize!

I have a friend who looks over his shoulder about every two minutes. This nervous tick has gotten worse as he has gotten older. But, if you know this wonderful man, you would realize soon enough that you should look past this quirky behavior, because it has nothing to do with the man. Looking past and getting used to are a good combination for numbing your senses to something that may normally bother you.

I watch World News every night with #DavidMuir. News often fills our minds with a constant barrage of negativity. Instead of stopping at watching just the news—which I actually feel is important to stay current—we spend the rest of the evening watching movies and television programming that also ignites every fear in our being about guns, violence, and the threat of everything we own being taken from us.

In fact, our senses are so dulled to violence fact that when we are in danger we don’t know how to react. We are taught to watch these disturbing events from afar, even enjoy them, but never are we shown how to handle any of the violence that lands on our own doorstep.

Four years ago I was sitting in my living room with my mother of 84 watching television. A large gust of wind blew directly toward the house and blew off the roof of my garage and some of the roof of my home. In a moment the power cut off.

Left in the dark, I heard my mother murmur something I didn’t expect, “There are some candles in the drawer under the television. There’s a flashlight in the pantry with new batteries. You better get your cell phone and call the electric company now!”

Usually, I’m Johnny-on-the-spot, but my mother who had lived through the depression and many crazy lifetime tragedies and wars was prepared—way more prepared than I. I learned a big lesson that night:

Don’t just sit on your ass and watch tragedy; prepare for it!

I’m not a proponent of engaging in magnifying negativity by dreaming about and becoming anxious about it, but that doesn’t mean I don’t put up firewalls on my computer and guard my online accounts with secret passwords to keep hackers from taking my possessions. In other words, we must reach a great balance between understanding the worldly chaos we live in, preparing for the worst, but also live in a state of objectivity with our spiritual self, almost separate from our physical self.

I’ve lived through 3 tornadoes, a hurricane, a shoot out, gun fight in lower Manhattan, a personal mugging with a machete at my throat, 2 robberies of my apartment, a flood, 2 major divorces, and I’m sure I’m missing a lot of other tangible and important facts. Those are just the majors that came up as an adult. My childhood was rife with even more.

The one thing I learned out of all of it is that I cannot stop tragedy from happening. But I can limit the amount of tragic input I subject myself to every day on the television and by reading too much news or watching to many CNN programs. I must know what’s happening without immersing myself in it. I don’t need to add to my anxious subconscious by watching more shows about violence and horrific behavior, even though they may seem to my human self a distraction and even a pleasure.

I must separate myself from the trauma so that I can spend time preparing my body and spirit for times when I need to be protected and when I need to protect myself and those I love.

I suggest this:

As we get 100% energy every day from God, we must make sure that we realize that this energy is invested in things that you care about and value. This is what a typical day may look like for me as I disperse this energy:

  • 30% goes to making a living
  • 20% of my time goes to staying healthy
  • 10% of my life goes to Spiritual understanding, reading or meditating
  • 20% goes to enjoying life with my friends and family; and
  • 20% goes completely to my husband.

As in everything in life, you must invest in what will give you a great return. What you don’t see on my list is spending time bitching at what I cannot solve. Spending time in unforgiveness and hate. Going to bars to drink my sorrows away. Chasing after fantasies. Watching hours of television to whittle away the time I could be using to create, manifest, and give the world my light!

We have a duty to ourselves and to the world to balance our energy and come up with a schedule in our lives that that will prosper us, our families, and keep ourselves healthy—body, mind, and spirit. Make your investment of time a priority this week!

Why Do You Keep Trying to Look Like the Image of Yourself? #relationshipadvice #spiritualadvice #personalpower #newthought

Maxwell Maltz, a famous author (Psycho-Cybernetics) and American plastic surgeon often spoke about the difference between making changes to the body and the insurgence of negative thoughts that would follow. These thoughts would almost always be contrary to how one would look inside as compared to how he or she appeared outside, even after major plastic surgery. So, how do we look authentic inside and out?

As most people do during middle age, I often struggled with a few pounds around the waist. This happens mostly in the winter (even though I live in Florida), because the swimming pool is too cold to do my daily ritual of 20-30 laps. When I’m swimming, I look at myself in the mirror and see a body that brings a feeling of pride. When I simply do my gym workout without the swimming, I stand on the scale and think: What the hell? How do I keep gaining weight? This just doesn’t make sense. (Even though I know I gained the weight because my eating and energetic output are not balanced.)

What’s happening on the outside has to mirror something that is in my mind, because nothing can make its way to our life unless it has already presented in your mind—absolutely nothing. So, during the winter, what could possibly be plaguing my mind enough for me to dicker with myself about my weight and the way I look?

Maxwell Maltz’s study began after he had operated on a series of people who had terrible birth defects or had been in accidents that caused major face reconstruction. He noticed that after a person had lived his or her entire life with a birth defect (especially on the face), that even after his or her face looked beautiful, peering in the mirror was difficult. The patients would see the old face, not the beautiful new face. Perhaps this is the case with people who have had bariatric surgery for weight loss, as well. Very often they end up gaining back much of the weight they initially lost. Below is a quote from one such bariatric patient with Lapband:

The fact is, the problem was never IN our stomachs, it was somewhere else within us: Our heads, our hearts, our self-esteem maybe. The band only helps us accomplish the PHYSICAL part of whatever our problem is that got us fat in the first place. It can ONLY control how much food you put in your body; it does NOT choose WHAT you put in your body. (http://www.bariatric-surgery-source.com)

The problem is never in the ways we try to appear different, ever! The issue about our looks is in our minds. If we don’t clear the issues from the past, the stressors, the negative thoughts that make you feel not good enough, not pretty enough, and not skinny enough is what must be worked on in tandem with any kind of weight loss or plastic surgery you try.

Dr. Maltz used hypnotherapy to help change the problems in the mind with great success. I have been a certified Clinical Hypnosis Practitioner for 25 years and have seen amazing results for people who changing the mind to change the story in their bodies. Intemperance #habits #twelvesteps #rehabilitation #SpiritualLiving

Most of us spend our days wondering… wishing that we were somewhere, anywhere but in our own bodies. We wish to be doing something else, to be someone else, to have a life outside of the one in which we have. This kind of belief usually leads to drinking too much or an excess of something in your life that seems to ameliorate the negative feelings, at least, enough to go through your day without pulling out your hair.

What you don’t realize is that there is nothing outside of yourself that can give you any real satisfaction or security. You think that money would give you security. You believe that a job such as being a movie star or a rock singer would solve all of your problems inside. But, the truth is: Once you lived through the excesses of life, you would find that your true unhappiness is inside. Within you is the only place you can look to find true happiness and joy, as well.

I woke up this morning from a very real dream. I’m not sure what made my eyes open at 4:15 a.m., but, I sat in my living room and had absolutely no idea who I was or where I was. I had to look around me and remember the furniture and my apartment, as if I had never seen it before. I saw my dog curled up beside me before I realized I was Bo Sebastian living in Pembroke Pines, Florida. I was that disoriented.

I had read in my spiritual research that this is one instance in which you can be sure that you are Spirit living in Body. What person wakes up and does not know who he is or if he is truly his body? My disorientation led me back into a meditation that was very interesting. I tried to stay in the mindset that I was simply spirit, unattached to anything human. I wondered where this would lead my thoughts and imagination, or if I would be illumined by any visions or words of wisdom.

I went into a dream that I was eating dinner in a restaurant with a few of my family members and friends. Next to us were Barrack Obama, his two daughters, and Hillary Clinton, also waiting for their meal. The entire dream was about how the people that seems so unreachable in life were as personable as a neighbor you had known me for a long time. I believe the dream was trying to tell me that even the most powerful people in the world are just spirits living in human bodies. They, too, are searching for love and peace. They, too, are linked, somehow, to the spiritual journey that my friends, my family, and I travel.

No amount of fame, pleasure, or power can make a spirit, which is entirely made of God, be anything more than it is—complete and whole, in this moment. The illusion comes from the body, in our ego. We seek outside of ourselves, because we believe that all of these extraneous things can bring us peace, joy, and happiness. Ultimately, we know that, if everything in the manifest world is nothing more than an illusion and will someday pass, then, we must look inside for our purpose and fulfillment. (I’m not saying that wanting more than your life and job provide now is a bad thing. I’m saying that looking for peace and security outside of your own spirit is futile.)

“I am made of Spirit, complete and whole, right here, right now. There is no power in anything outside of me that can help me, satisfy me, heal me, or give me any kind of security. The only security I need is a true spiritual purpose and an understanding of my oneness with the eternal power of God. As this Spirit, I am happy and joyful now, creating and manifesting all in my world that draws to my life the power I need to fulfill my purpose.”
