I spent 40 of my 56 years as an insomniac. I would be exhausted when I fell asleep, but just as I was dozing, my heart would begin to beat rapidly. Then, lying awake for hours, the symptoms worsened as the loop of sleeplessness continued.
Then, I tried hypnotherapy, which helped me learn the difference between #lucid_dreaming, #visualization, and #deep_sleep.
Every thought in your mind expresses itself in some way. So, if you fall asleep thinking about lack, you will unconsciously create lack as you sleep. If you fall asleep in the arms of an angel and imagine financial security for the rest of your life, you are likely to sow the seeds needed in the subconscious Mind to express this Truth in your life.
Like begets Like! You cannot think negatively and have a prosperous and healthy life. However, you can consistently hold on to positive, affirmative thoughts that reject and replace the negative ones and unconsciously sow the seeds for an amazing life.

The deductive thought process is the reasoning part of the mind. When you add 2 + 2, you need the deductive processing part of the mind to come up with the answer. (Did you hear yourself say “4” in your mind?) This is the voice of the deductive mind. When you are in this part of the mind, you cannot and will not fall asleep. It’s simply impossible. So, if you’re thinking about what the day will be like, how you will do on your new job, your shopping list, worry about a friend—all of these things will keep you conscious.
Subconsciousness rest is what is considered deep sleep. To get to this part in the mind, you must visualize or dream. You don’t have to fall asleep to dream or visualize. You can practice this dreaming state.
In your bed, before you go to sleep, look around you. Find an object that attracts your attention. Stare at it long enough to keep the image and thought about it in your mind. When you close your eyes, try to recapture the image in your mind. This is the start of creating space in your mind to sleep.
To keep this simple, lets simply speak about the main two stages of sleep—(1) lucid dreaming and (2) deep sleep. When we dream, we are awake enough to experience the dream, sometime as clear as if we are living the dream in real life. Deep sleep, however, is when your mind and awareness stop communicating with your human brain. Science can only speculate about what happens to our thoughts during this deep stage of sleep. Personally, I believe we escape the confines of the body and rest in heavenly places or in the One Divine Mind.
The Toltecs have a theory about inducing this lucid state of consciousness called “Mitote.” Don Miguel Ruiz, the author of The Four Agreements speaks of a process the Toltecs call “Dreaming.” One or two people lead a group into lucid dreaming by alternately relaxing and awakening them periodically all through the night. You may have to take a walk, or splash water on your face, but you are required to awaken completely between dreams. This allows your body to awake as well, so that when you fall back to sleep, your body stays awake for a while with the brain—long enough, in fact, to induce lucid dreaming.
You can achieve this more simply by meditation and using The Insight Timer. A chime or a gong rings every few minutes to startle your body and brain functions just enough to keep your body slightly awake. As long as the body is awake, the brain functions. When the brain functions it can receive the images that are either awakened by Spirit or coming from your own subconscious fears or joys.
These subconscious images often tell a story about what bothers, angers, and keeps you secure or insecure in your awakened stage.
“If you sleep, Desire grows in you Like a vine in the forest. Like a monkey in the forest You jump from tree to tree, Never finding the fruit – From life to life, Never finding peace. If you are filled with desire Your sorrows swell Like the grass after the rain. But if you subdue desire Your sorrows shall fall from you Like drops of water from a lotus flower.”

You don’t get to this voice if reason or recognize it unless you spend time with yourself in silence, asking yourself important self-talk questions. This is like dating.
