A Letter to Your Past #past #livingintheNOW #spirituality #lovewins

Dear Past:

Moving to Florida has helped me resolve so many of my past issues with life. Sometimes, I look back at life and can’t help thinking about the large chunk of this path we spent walking the earth together. Remember the poem: Two road diverge in a yellow wood, and sorry I could not travel both”?

90% of the time I believe the NOW is the only pertinent moment. But, sometimes I miss you and think, what if…

Continued from above:

I supposed getting so close to my wedding (my new life ahead) is causing me to take a look at YOU, the past, and see how and what has led me to this juncture. Sometimes one just has to let go of even the tiniest strings that tug from the past to move completely forward.

I can see myself facing forward now, knowing there is nowhere best to go but straight toward my deepest passion and greatest love. To truly do this, I have to jump across the barrier that is YOU, into the arms of my greatest Truth.

Sometimes my family and friends ask about you. I would love to tell them that you are doing great. I only hear stories from friends who can’t possibly know. You are a shadow now that only can be seen in pictures and memories.

Recently I was asked if I had ever acted silly and stupid with friends. I told that person that you and I were the only ones that would make each other crack up.

Now I have you, who also makes me laugh and my heart feel love and security. I guess I knew from the first time we laughed and made fools of ourselves to make each other smile that this was the one.

I can let go now, because I found something that supersedes the past.

The Present Now continues to be my best friend in the world. She’s the angel that never goes away. One constant love that I still have never had a cross word with in 56 years. Her offspring are adorable, beautiful, and full of the power that will create a future worth living.

Old friends, vetted friends lives near me. I can trust these people to live in this special NOW with me. She continues to be a special healing light in my life.

My family is holding up well. They ultimately are replicas of the past. Their stories reflect you perfectly. I’m thankful now that I live closer to them now, as I can live with them now, instead of hear stories about them. I am able to release even my past with them to their own care.

I feel free now to live my life, fully and completely.

I still have no idea what is next for me. In some ways I hope I never discover it. This way I’ll stay on the path walking forward as an explorer of life not just an observer of it.

Point Me Toward Tomorrow! #goodbyepast #spiritualadvice #psychology #SOM

If we hold on to the past and won’t let go of it, then how can Source replace that negativity with something wonderful? You have to make room for your good, by letting go of that which has not served you well. Just let it go! If you think you will change the past by thinking about it, hoping for something different to have happened, or wishing for revenge, you will stay stuck forever! Again, let it go!

I just saw a friend’s post from my old neighborhood as a child. He was with his beautiful little family, happily married, and currently—he is president of our high school class—which means he keeps up with all of our classmates until the next class reunion.

When we were both children, we were in similar familial situations with an abusive, alcoholic parent, a troublesome home life, and little social acceptance. At the last class reunion, I watched him in amazement, now outspoken, very motivated, and equally happy. What a perfect picture of the song from A Chorus Line: “What I Did for Love.” The lyrics are:

Kiss the day goodbye.

And point me toward tomorrow.

Wish me luck, the same to you.

And I can’t regret, what I did for love…

Gone, love is never gone as we travel on,

Love is what we’ll remember!

Reviewing the past to help us grow is one of the few things we can do with the memories of the past that is actually helpful. But, once you have finished your review, you must, once again, let go!

Before I left Nashville for my life-changing journey to South Florida, I wrote my memoir. I wrote it for myself. I called it “Learning Alone.”

It reads like a novel, moving from one disaster to the next, especially where relationship is concerned. Unintentionally, I had recapitulated my broken childhood in almost every intimate relationship in my life. After rereading the memoir, I should have thrown the book away. However, I decided that I would go one step further and publish it, to help anyone else through Anxious Attachment issues, which was my main psychological problem. Not many people have read the book, probably because it’s sad and carries with it little hope, until the end, when I finally wake up from the drama of the past and LET GO!

Trust me, as my friend from childhood did, and I just recently did, letting go is the key to a happy future. Tomorrow can hold with it anything you put your mind to, but you have to take steps to go boldly into the future. As Dr. Arleen Pitcock quoted yesterday at the Center of Spiritual Living:

“A vision without action is just a story of what might have been!”

Feel Your Bliss Right Now! #Eckharttolle #Buddhism #livingnow #spiritualadvice

I stood by the ocean in complete silence in the arms of someone I love, gazing at the lights flickering off of the black, night water. In that moment, I felt complete bliss. When my mind went into the future, I lost the feeling. When my mind meandered into the past, the feeling waned even more. The only moment that was perfect was in the present!

Practicing the present can be difficult, especially if you live in physical or emotional pain, because the very place you want to avoid is the present. But, this is our lesson today. Not everyone has the perfect moment I had last evening, but everyone has the NOW. So, how do we fill our minds with the present, even when the now may be harder to face?

First of all, let’s define feeling the present moment. Many people will take all of their pain from the past and bring it into the present and say, “This is the now for me.” Actually, this isn’t the now for you. The now hold exactly what you have in that moment and only that moment. So, to get to the now you may have to ask yourself the question, “What do I see, hear, and feel right now, without the thoughts that just passed through my mind?”

You may be surprised that the burden of the past may not even be present in that now moment. In fact, you are the only one who can bring the heavy weight of the past to your present moment. I’ll give you an example of my NOW moment last evening and how my baggage from the past tried to ruin it.

I have been loved and left by a few people in my life with painful endings. I’m sure most of you reading this have been hurt in some way. These kinds of pasts leave us with a stain, more accurately, a neural pathway leading to our trauma and all the feelings that go with it, which will flood our mind, given the right circumstances. So, in that moment, the words: THIS FEELING WON’T LAST! went through my mind. I used my cue word, neutral, to get me back to the present and made sure my eyes were open. I began to gaze into the sky and at the beautiful, clear night, with a myriad of stars gazing back to me. I smelled the salty, fishy ocean. I felt secure arms around my body, my feet in the sand. In other words, I took myself back to the now using present feelings. This is the key to staying present. I have no idea what tomorrow will bring—what the next moment will bring. But, I do know what I feel now.

So, if you are feeling terrible pain from a break-up or a failing relationship, ask yourself the question, “What am I feeling right now, in this moment?”

You may discover that the only thing your body feels is the weight of itself on a cool recliner, the tingling of feet resting, and the noise of a television playing your favorite show. Listen intently to the words of the show. Maybe, somewhere in the dialogue or in the scene between the actors a message lies waiting for you to hear and understand.

Our lessons and messages from Source are always all around us. I’m surprised at how often, even the television, will reflect something I’m thinking or learning from the day. All is God! All is for our growing and reaching deeper. You will find the peace that is underneath all of the “stuff,” if you allow yourself this lesson. You will begin to dwell in this moment more often, because the NOW is our only refuge.

Practice this exercise today. Tomorrow we will talk about finding the messages from the now.
