What Happened Last Night? #memoryloss #forgettingthepast #findingpeace #SpiritualLiving

As anyone gets older, we say “My memory used to be much better when I was younger” or “I seem to have more trouble remembering things the older I get.” I know the words have slipped out of my mouth, despite the fact that I believe in confessing my truth, not my fiction. In today’s discover, I would like to look at the opposite side of memory loss—the good in not remembering the past.

For someone who spends his day having to field ground balls, high flying hits, and throws from players who have bad arms, I find that the thoughts I field daily end up wasting half of my day. Thoughts from my past cloud my mind and leave no room for new thought and Divine inspiration. So, I wonder just how much of forgetting I am worried about. I am certainly not wishing for Alzheimer’s disease—absolutely not. I want the power of my mind that creates, deliberates, and turns old thoughts into powerful new ones. Yes! However, that part of my mind that seems to work overtime at remembering old struggles, that I certainly want to completely degenerate.

So, how do we get to the place where we no longer have to field old thoughts from the past? This is the question that is on most spiritual thinker’s minds. If we could only resist the past, quit deliberating on the future, and remain in the NOW, we would be completely spiritually actualized, right?

So, how does anyone accomplish this? I hear teachers such as Eckhart Tolle teaching the wisdom of Buddhism to help us stay in the now. I want to live as he says. I use the tools he gives. Yet, I suddenly find myself thinking about a past hurt. Where did that thought come from?

I follow that thought back to where it began in my mind. Ultimately, it was a trigger. A song comes on the radio that reminds me of a person. That person reminds me of another friend. That friend was the cousin of my ex. My ex used to treat her like he treated me… Alas, I’m back at the beginning, thinking about my past hurts.

How do we go through life without triggers?

Actually, we can resist many of the triggers by reducing stimuli that we cannot control. For instance, television, movies, and radio all talk to us and to our subconscious. In fact, some commercials are specifically designed to get into your subconscious and bring up fear, hunger, and insecurity to open our minds to purchase something to alleviate said things.

So, what would happen if you did not turn on the radio and spend much of the day in silence? Would this reduce the risk of reliving the past? It may. But, what living life without undo stimuli would certainly do is force you do deal with your unwieldy mind. We turn on all of these devices to keep us from being in our quiet mind. We do not like what is in our minds, so we run away from it. Then we find that this same stimulus that was to keep us from remembering the past is actually leading us right back to the past, where we do not want to be.

Quiet is a good thing. Silence in the mind is only wrought by reducing stimulus, learning how to train the mind to stay present, and being vigilant to the process of thoughts that trigger the past. This is all training we must allow ourselves to learn; otherwise, we will never overcome the power of the past.

In silence there is peace! In the silence there is unspoken. God is in the silence.

She Was Once a Beauty Queen #manifestinggood #DivineMind #ScienceofMind #SOM #SpiritualLiving

My birthday started off with a bang, then with all the people offering their blessings and good wishes, some people’s good wishes brought the past with the wishes in a way that was difficult to dismiss. The past, whether it be remiss with pain or whether it be its grand moments is difficult to set aside forever. We carry it with us, it seems, wherever we go. Though, we may try with all of our being to stay in the present, sometimes, the past creeps up behind us and reminds of a time when life was not so wonderful.

That happened to me, yesterday. But I tried my best to dispel the old thoughts and continue to see the good in all that stood before me. I made a commitment to answer every good wish on Facebook, personally, so I ended up spending about four hours behind the computer reading the greetings of so many friends and responding to them. Some made me smile really big. Some brought back memories of the past and grave questions of “why, God, did this happen”? While, the best of these remarks was one single paragraph that made me weep.

Apparently, someone noticed that it was my birthday who was not my friend on Facebook. She had, though, been a follower of my blog. Her kind greetings to me brought tears to my eyes. She told me that, though I didn’t know her, a friend suggested that she read my blog.

As a result, she said that her life had been changed forever as a result of reading it. She suggested that, perhaps one of the reasons I was born, was to help lead her out of the darkness.

I cannot tell you how much that brought joy to my heart. Finding out that your life has reason is often what we look for in a day to give us a purpose to get up in the morning. Of course, I know in my heart that millions of people have read this blog, but not so many people respond to the blog anymore. They read it as a part of their daily meditation. I get little feedback. So, let me tell you, it was nice to hear the kind words in the midst of mulling over past relationships and loving wishes.

This brings me to my point. I have a great friend who was once a beauty queen. Now she doesn’t have the money to fix her teeth and has gained a considerable amount of weight. She is wonderful, funny, and intelligent, but she will barely go out in public and will not let anyone take a picture of her. She calls herself ugly! And she will remain ugly to herself until she dispels the belief that her life should mirror her past.

Who we are now is a “result” of the past, but we are NOT our past, in any way, shape, or form.

If I carried everything into the present that molded and shaped me, I would be carrying a load far too heavy to manage. Our past was meant to be just what it was—the past. We are designed to live in the present with the hope of the future full of seed thoughts given to Divine Mind to be grown as a designer would create a new garden.

My thoughts of tomorrow and the next year are about sowing new and wonderful dreams from the seeds I plant today. If my mind were filled with what I did in the past—good or bad—I would never have the mental energy or capacity to create a wonderful future WITH DIVINE MIND.

If I were once a beauty queen, it was to teach me that I have within me the capacity to be as beautiful as I can project God THROUGH me. We are miracles in such that we constantly recreate every moment of life as God continues to create THROUGH US, AS US, just as God continues to manifest more and more universes in the cosmos every moment of every day.

Live the 49 Weeks of Life that is NOT VACATION! #LIVINGNOW #WAITINGFORLIFE #psychology

A year ago, I had a friend pass away just two weeks after he retired. His entire life he spent waiting for his 65th birthday. He had a cool million stashed away. He had a vision board of the places he would travel, people he would meet, and life he would lead. But, unfortunately, he never got to do any of it. He was one of those people who lived three weeks of every year on vacation. The rest of the time he spent working, thinking of work, stashing away money for retirement, and worrying about work some more.

Spirit didn’t frame the world in love and have gorgeous life bursting all around us to keep us from life 49 weeks of the year. No! Life is meant to live every day, every hour, every moment.

Buddha said: Do not dwell in the past. Do not dream of the future. Concentrate the mind on the present moment.

In fact, much of Buddhist theory is about living in the present moment. The idea is that no other moment is real. The past is gone. The present is just a thought. But, this moment, this absolute NOW is all we have. So, if you miss it, spend all your time dwelling in the past, or dream of the future, you have denied the very present, which holds all of the truth you need to live.

This makes so much sense, so you would think that most people would try to stay present. Think, however, about why people visit the past and dream of the future. The one big issue that sticks out the most is that they don’t like their lives now.

If you don’t like your present life, don’t resent those who helped you get there or dream of not being where you are. Take your present moments to make a plan for change. Begin now to start taking each moment and using it to create a life worth living.

Take it from me, someone who has, finally, at 54 years old, started truly living my dream. I stand in awesome amazement almost every moment of every day of how perfectly life unfolds when I’m standing there waiting for it—no matter what comes my way.
