Peace is Contingent upon No Attachments!

This blog is about having no attachment to the outcome of anything in your life. What does releasing your physical and mental world to the powers of the Universe do for the soul?

IT FREES THE SOUL TO BE AT PEACE!

How important is peace to your body and soul? Every day we have one huge choice: Be the light that we are meant to be!

If you can do that, you can live a life in perfect peace. Your soul (or sole) responsibility to the world is simply being a conduit to the love, compassion, and joy of God expressing! If you can be that, cut through the shit of expectation, disappointment, and anxiety; then, you will be able to put your soul to rest at night with nothing but your best, each day!

MY LIFE EXAMPLE

I have had an amazing few days, the kind of days you only imagine of in dreams. One of the smaller events that happened to me was that I was selected for a major role in a commercial by a well-known casting director and producer. This is what’s known as being on “First Refusal.” In other words, the director loves you, the casting director thinks your perfect for the role, and those two people are going to try to convince the client (the person paying for the project) to pick you as their first choice. Nine times out of ten, you can count on a first refusal turning into a job. At least, in my life that has been the case. However, I have been on hold (which means you are second or third choice) and have gotten the job, so that means that the opposite can happen.

Long story short, after an amazing week, the first refusal turned into a definite refusal from the client. When I got the message from my agent, I wasn’t a bit distressed, though. Why?

Actually, to do the job, I was going to have to cut off two glorious days of my honeymoon, which my amazing husband agreed to do (bless his heart) because he realized it was a great opportunity both financially and professionally.

Life is consistently about choices. We follow our hearts and our dreams and sometimes neglect the deepest choice, our moral choice to move in the path of peace. I’m not saying the choice to do this commercial was against any moral part of me, but it did disrupt my peace. I made a choice when I went to the audition (knowing the shoot date) that I was available for the shoot job. However, when I got the callback, the shoot day changed to right—smack dab—in the middle of my honeymoon. In that moment of time, I made the snap decision to honor my career over my relationship, which wasn’t the peaceful choice. When I hung up the phone with my agent, I knew it.

To appease my soul, though, I thought, what are the chances that I’ll get this commercial out of a hundred men?

I remember the moment distinctly I had to make that choice. It was a mere second in time. I hope to remember the moment every day so that I will not make that kind of a snap decision again. I’m thankful for Spirit for placing me on the right path, even though I was disobedient to my own soul. This is why I felt peace when I heard the news from the agent.

Make this commitment with me today:

My only choice today is to shine the light of love, peace, compassion and joy through me and be “on-call” for life. I can choose to take opportunities, but wherever this earthly path takes me is up to God. There is a divine plan, which I’m not privy to. However, I know that Infinite Mind has it all worked out. It is not my responsibility to run the universe. I HAVE NO ATTACHMENT TO THE FUTURE.

Catastrophization! #newoutlook #changeyourmind #psychology #anxiety

When you view or present a situation as considerably worse than it actually is, you enter into an immediate state of anxiety. I refer to this state as—CATASTROPHIZATION! The reason anyone turns something small into a dramatic situation is either he/she wants to attract attention to him/herself or he/she does not want to identify with the present moment. Let’s consider the second.

If you are one of these people who identifies with catastrophization, the question you might ask yourself is: What thing, person, or situation in this present moment is too frightening to face?

I remember a time in my life when I felt as if I carried the weight of the world and everyone around me on my shoulders. I actually took responsibility for everything going on in the lives of those closest to me and at work. This kept my mind off of my own problems and the possible solutions to make my life better. But it also caused me to be more reactive to any small situations that arose in my life. I had a lot of “poor-me’s” happening in life. Each time I put my own problems on the backburner, the poor-me’s became exponential.

I resented the moment, because I had no good perspective. When my attention was on other people and the large catastrophes of the world, I couldn’t begin to look at the small things in my own life. In fact, I even thought it selfish to begin to clean up my life, when so many horrible things were going on around me. Wouldn’t it be more important to stay focused on tonight’s evening news, instead of making a list of things I need to accomplish to clear my head?

The truth is: Your head is never clear, because you’re afraid that old thoughts and beliefs will return to your mind and send you into a tailspin, thoughts of failure, thoughts of lack, and thoughts of sickness. So, you don’t look and hope like hell that it all goes away.

These are the times, my dear friend, that you need to accept the counsel of someone who can help you sort through your catastrophised fears and turn them into palatable, workable, functioning problems that have answers. I know this to be true for my life. And I’m certainly seeing that if you take the steps to turn from the drama in your life and be real, today, you will clear you mind and release from your own catastrophization!

Letting Go

I sat at the movies watching “Silver Linings Playlist” and suddenly my heart began to pound out of my chest. I felt as if all the doors in the theater were being locked. I was transported back to a time in my life when my father was drunkenly beating up my brother to a pulp. I lay on the top bunk for a half of the scenario. Then I jumped out of bed and ran to the neighbor’s house for help.

I watched from an observer’s perspective as my entire body seized with pain and anxiety. I had to leave the theater or I would have curled up in a ball and cried like a baby. PTSD had hit me and hit me hard.

This, however, was the first time in my life I had really been able to watch what was happening. Maybe, because I understood what was going on, the experience hit me harder than I had ever remembered. I drove home, which I don’t recommend, and called a therapist friend as I drove (another bad decision). After fifteen minutes of talking me down from the bridge, I realized I was driving in the wrong direction. I had been disoriented enough that I didn’t even know where home was. I ended up 10 minutes from Columbia, going in the complete opposite direction.

Since then, I have had a few PTSD moments. A couple of them have happened during the night. A dream sparked some terrible anxiety in me. I had to get up, do some EMDR exercises and meditate before I was able to get back to sleep.

Can you release something that your body and mind doesn’t want to let go of? This is a question I have asked myself many times. I believe that whatever anxiety or stress is holding on like glue, will someday—with clear, empowered belief and therapy—will be released.

My point in all of this is that now I am seeing what is happening as it is happening. I had never understood why I would act out of character sometimes and get cold and withdrawn. Now, I’m perfectly aware—so, aware, that I can ask my partner to help me as these emotions are surfacing.

Great relationships are wonderful when someone is compassionate enough to help you work through some deep issues. I suspect that God intended for us to work out most of our deepest relationship issues with our life partner, because he or she understands us in a way no one else does or would care to.

If you deal with this kind of stronghold, I recommend starting with some therapy. Many practitioners of all kinds exist to help people with disabling problems. Choose the modality you feel is right for you by doing Google searches and seeing what therapy best suits your problem. For me, Hypnosis and EMDR, which are very similar modalities are the most effective when it comes to PTSD. In fact, a great deal of my family therapist and social worker therapists are using hypnotic techniques to uncover deeply seated fear and anxiety with Parts Therapy, breathing exercises, and Regression techniques, specifically developed all through hypnosis.
