Where Do You Go When You Run Away? #anxiety #stress #spirituality #lovewins

You’ve heard the old saying that men think about sex 8000 times a day. Have you ever noticed where your mind goes when you run away from life? Is it an old feud? Sex? Do you fantasize about love lost? Do you replay a football game over in your mind? What exactly have you taught your mind to do to keep you from thinking about the present moment?

These stuck thoughts are often referred to as “earworms.” Here’s what AnxietyCentre.com says about this phenomenon:

  • The stuck thought anxiety symptom can precede, accompany, or follow an episode of nervousness, anxiety, fear, and elevated stress, or occur out of the blue and for no apparent reason.
  • The stuck thought anxiety symptom can range in intensity from slight, to moderate, to severe. It can also come in waves, where it’s strong one moment and eases off the next.
  • The stuck thought anxiety symptom can change from day to day, and/or from moment to moment.
  • All of the above combinations and variations are common.

Here’s what you need to know about these stuck thoughts:

Stress changes how the brain functions. While there are many changes that occur, the following are the most important to note regarding stuck thoughts:

Stress increases the electrical activity in the brain. Increased electrical activity in the brain will cause an increase in thought generation. This increased thought generation can cause thoughts to replay over and over again.

Stress heightens the activity in the amygdala (fear center) and suppresses activity in the cortex (the rationalization areas of the brain). This change can cause thoughts to take on a more ominous tone with a reduced ability to dismiss them.

This combination alone can cause thoughts to seemingly become stuck.

Personally, I find that I go to a place I have gone to my entire life. I think about being a gymnast and pretend like I’m doing my Olympic routine. More often than not, I’m either on the balance beam or the uneven bars.

When I find myself in this stress trigger, I know that whatever it is that I am going through in my life, I need to let go of the fantasy and clear my mind to whatever I need to rationalize, deliberate or decide.

The NOW is the only place the mind should be.

All that happens in your life happens in the present. It doesn’t happen in the past. It will never happen as you plan the future. In fact, you will often miss the good of the present whenever you keep your mind affixed on stuck thoughts from the past and the future.

Deciding on and living by your core values is a tenuous challenge. My many years of spiritual coaching and life coaching can help you with this. I have helped many people in this situation see light and overcome the darkness of the past. Give me a call: 954-253-6493. SKYPE sessions are available. http://www.bosebastian.com/client-praise/

What Is Controlling Your Mood? #anxiety #stress #amygdala #observer

The human brain’s amygdala in the limbic system is the center for emotionally charged memories and persistent negative thoughts. It is active during stress, anxiety, and depression. It sits conveniently beside the hippocampus, the part of the brain that serves long-term memory.

We often wonder why we are so depressed some days. We wake up charged and ready to go on Monday. By Wednesday, we can barely get out of bed. The weight of life seems heavier than usual. What exactly causes the shift in mood? And how do we deal with this shift?

If we discover the reason for our moods, can we control them?

Continued from above:

Yesterday, I woke up in a funk. I did everything I usually do in the morning. I took a walk, meditated, prayed and spent some time being grateful for my life. Yet, as the day progressed more and more things began to go awry. Suddenly, I was knee-deep in a heated discussion on Facebook and felt like spewing all of my frustration onto someone… anyone. This is when I realized I had better step back and take a look at the situation. (It’s hard to believe that it took me that long to realize that I was acting out of my Truth. But this is the reality of life somedays.)

What I discovered when I took a step back to observe myself was that I felt as if the world and life was controlling me, not the reverse. I didn’t feel I had a handle on my own life. That frustrated me!

I asked myself an important question: Who is in control of my emotions here? Is it people on the Internet, anyone trying to control me or my actions, or am I simply letting all of this happen TO ME?

Of course, the answer was the latter. I had control. It was always my choice to be frustrated or sad. If I wanted to be happy, I had to take back what I felt was leveraging my emotional core. This is an easy thing to say and an even harder thing to understand and actually do.

The reason why this act is so difficult, in general, is because most people do not understand how to step away from their own life and observe what is happening. The OBSERVER part of the brain is more a mystical/spiritual concept, rather than a physical concept. This is the concept in which the Ayurvedics used to meditate and teach yoga. The entire process of yoga—the breathing, the body work, and the meditation—all lead to the savasana, which is the time when the body sleeps, but the mind is awake. In this space, we can deliberately watch our actions and even listen to the thoughts moving through our minds without judgment. This is the OBSERVER MIND. We can’t touch it. We can’t feel it. We simply have to get out of the way to BE IT.

When our physical bodies are at rest, our reasoning mind quit reasoning, a part of us rises to a resting place, albeit a respite that revives our souls, gives way to healing, and provides our greatest source of inspiration.

To get out of the way of the powers of the amygdala, we must get out of the way of our ego self, the human mind and body. When we do this, we sense the mystical power that breathes us, that animates us, that drives us to be our best self—always.

The Intricate Past #livinginthepast #yournewstory #Spirituality #now

Remembering the old story about Lot’s wife, I imagined turning into a pillar of salt about a million times for looking at, mulling over, rewriting, and sifting over the DIVISIVE PAST. Why can’t we just let go of the past like two ducks squabbling on a peaceful lake? A second later, they float away gracefully, never looking back.

Getting over the past is an intricate problem most of us continue to battle. The problem with NOT getting over the past is that we waste so much time angry, in our depressed minds, and simply not being open to the awesomeness that COULD BE if we would just open our hearts, minds, and specifically our eyes to the present.

As a life coach, I often see how the past can stymie and stop someone cold in his or her tracks—just as that pillar of salt—unable to move forward with any strength or direction. How do we overcome what should be the simplest task: releasing and letting go?

We think of our mind often as our physical brain. This is an incorrect thought. The brain is a measurable physical organ. The mind is immeasurable.

The mind can stay encapsulated in the body, stuck in the never-ending stream of stories from the past. It has another option. The mind can climb on to a bridge above the stream of stories and simply observe. This observer mind is accessed through self-inquiry, silence, and listening to your own thoughts without judgment.

When we can become advanced enough in our own self-discovery, we learn to access the most important part of the mind that will lead us out of the past and into peace.

My own journey of recognizing how the past and my past stories have overwhelmed my life and took over my mind like a fast growing cancer is completely documented in my latest book, “Your New Story, Your New Life.” The key to the change is in the book’s subtitle: The Metaphysical Mind.
