What Is Safe? #psychology #lifecoaching #fear #anxiety

I was fifty before I realized that losing my mother at eight years old to live with alcoholic father made me fear most of the world, especially losing people in all kinds of relationships. Our attachments as children can impact our entire life. The only reason I was able to even begin to regain confidence in life was because, my mother who left my father at a young age, came back into my life as an adult. She lived with me for seven years. As we got to really know each other and I felt her unadulterated love, I began to understand what I had missed all of those years. It was as if the gaping hole in my heart that kept wanting to be filled by relationship had suddenly began to fill with secure love. I noticed the older I got that I “needed” relationship less and less.
I have friends who used to tell me all the time that I wasted much too much time on intimate relationships—looking for them, trusting them, and clinging to them. As hard as it is to admit, they were correct. But, who can tell someone who is hurting inside not to hurt? Or who can tell a person with a broken leg to walk? This is something you have to come to yourself.
What I’m describing above is called anxious attachment. I wrote a book about it. If you suffer from this kind of neediness and can’t seem to get away from avoidant people in relationships, I assure you that you will be comforted from the lessons I learned. The book is called: “Learning Alone.” You can find it on Amazon.com or any online booksellers or libraries
