Where Do You Go When You Run Away? #anxiety #stress #spirituality #lovewins

You’ve heard the old saying that men think about sex 8000 times a day. Have you ever noticed where your mind goes when you run away from life? Is it an old feud? Sex? Do you fantasize about love lost? Do you replay a football game over in your mind? What exactly have you taught your mind to do to keep you from thinking about the present moment?
These stuck thoughts are often referred to as “earworms.” Here’s what AnxietyCentre.com says about this phenomenon:
- The stuck thought anxiety symptom can precede, accompany, or follow an episode of nervousness, anxiety, fear, and elevated stress, or occur out of the blue and for no apparent reason.
- The stuck thought anxiety symptom can range in intensity from slight, to moderate, to severe. It can also come in waves, where it’s strong one moment and eases off the next.
- The stuck thought anxiety symptom can change from day to day, and/or from moment to moment.
- All of the above combinations and variations are common.

Here’s what you need to know about these stuck thoughts:
Stress changes how the brain functions. While there are many changes that occur, the following are the most important to note regarding stuck thoughts:
Stress increases the electrical activity in the brain. Increased electrical activity in the brain will cause an increase in thought generation. This increased thought generation can cause thoughts to replay over and over again.
Stress heightens the activity in the amygdala (fear center) and suppresses activity in the cortex (the rationalization areas of the brain). This change can cause thoughts to take on a more ominous tone with a reduced ability to dismiss them.
This combination alone can cause thoughts to seemingly become stuck.
Personally, I find that I go to a place I have gone to my entire life. I think about being a gymnast and pretend like I’m doing my Olympic routine. More often than not, I’m either on the balance beam or the uneven bars.
When I find myself in this stress trigger, I know that whatever it is that I am going through in my life, I need to let go of the fantasy and clear my mind to whatever I need to rationalize, deliberate or decide.
The NOW is the only place the mind should be.
All that happens in your life happens in the present. It doesn’t happen in the past. It will never happen as you plan the future. In fact, you will often miss the good of the present whenever you keep your mind affixed on stuck thoughts from the past and the future.
